A unique institution for harmonisation of inter-ethnic relations, the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, was established in our country just 20 years ago, on March 1, 1995. Now it is a symbol of unity and harmony between representatives of various nationalities and ethnicities in our republic. There are a large number of them — 130!
In order to further strengthen interethnic harmony in the country and enhancing the role of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan in providing the national unity of people of Kazakhstan, according to the decision of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the year 2015 was declared the Year of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan.
Celebrations of the Year of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan will be organised simultaneously in the cities of Astana and Almaty, as well as in all regional centres of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
For example, in Astana the Year of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan is launched on February 6, 2015 at 11 a. m. A youth flash mob is organised on the Square in front of the Palace of Peace and Harmony (Pyramid). A fair of masters of national and applied art named "Halyk murasy" ("National heritage") is held in the foyer. Mass skating of residents and guests of the capital are conducted in the Ice Arena "Alau" from 6 p. m. to 11 p. m. within the frameworks of the synchronous event named "Start the Year of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan".
In addition, on the same day, a basketball tournament among school teams from the district "Yesil" is conducted at the gymnasium of the secondary school № 71.
On February 7, 2015 mass festivals and special concert are organised on the central square of the city, in the student park and on the square near the monument "Baiterek".
On the ski run a competition in cross-country skiing is conducted. Sporting events are also organised at the skating rink "Akbulak", including ice hockey tournament, sports festival called Lively Ice Starts and mass skating among the residents of the district "Almaty".
Taken together, various events within the celebration of the Year of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan will be held during the whole year. As the Secretariat of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan had announced earlier, by the end of 2015, on December 1, on the Day of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan the Forum of People of Kazakhstan will summarise the achievements of the Year of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan.
