Serke Kozhamkulov is the famous actor, one of the founders of the professional and national theater art, People’s Artist of the USSR. He was born in Komsomolsk district of Kostanay region. Serke lost his father at the young age. His desire for great art was influenced by his relative Zhusup Temirbekov and writer B. Maylin. In the 1913-1916, he studied at the school “Uazifa” («Уазифа») in Troitsk. In 1920-1922 Serke studied at Tatar Institute in Orenburg. In 1919 Serke was in Alibi Zhangeldin’s partisan detachment. He then worked as an investigator in the judiciary. Serke Kozhamkulov for the first time was noticed in his participation in the work of the troupe “Kyzyl Keruen” in the 20s. Later, while he was studying in Orenburg, he established a close relationship with prominent representative of Kazakh literature like S. Seyfullin, S. Mukanov, G. Musrepov and Master K. Badyrov. In 1922 together with S. Mukanov the future actor was staged in M. Auezov’s tragedy “Enlik—Kebek” («Енлик — Кебек»). The image of Espembeta eventually became his favorite role he played masterfully. In 1925 Serke Kozhamkulov was invited as a director of the newly organized the first professional Kazakh theater in Kyzyl-Orda. During these years, he has collaborated with such talented individuals as I. Baizakov, K. Zhandarbekov , A. Kashaubayev, K. Kuanyshbayev, E. Omirzakov and Zh. Shanin. Thanks to the S. Kozhamkulov’s efforts, in the theater were set plays “Baibishe- Tokal” («Бәйбiше — тоқал») of M. Auezov, “Halyk mektebi” («Халықмектебi»), “Kalpe” («Қалпе») of B. Maylin, “Zarlyk” («Зарлық») of U. Ospanov and “Marriage” («Женитьба») of N. Gogol. In 1930 suddenly revealed his acting talent, since he dedicated himself to it. Contemporaries noted his amazing insight into the image, the ability to accurately convey the sound tone without breaking stage techniques. Comedicrolesheplayedbrilliantly. Perhaps, it can be explained with qualities such as kindness, gentleness and childlike nature. Among the played roles noticeable the following: the role of Maybasara (Майбасар) in the play “Abay” («Абай») of M. Auezov, the role of Tymakbay (Тымакбай) in the play “Amangeldy” («Амангельды») of G. Musrepov, the role of Slay and Pedant (СлайиПедант) in the play “The Taming of the Shrew” of W. Shakespeare and the role of Zemlyanik in the play “The Inspector” of N. Gogol. Critics noticed Serke’s skills in creation of images of “little people”, how he was able to convey the content and the comic, also the tragedy of their inner state. In 1930 — 1940-ies and the actor played in the movie by making a worthy contribution to the development of national cinematography. Serke Kozhamkulov for his unique dramatic skill was awarded with orders and medals. He was the winner of various awards of the USSR and the Kazakh SSR.
