Not far from Kegen, the Kyzylzhar Fair was recreated specifically for the film

Not far from the village of Kegen in Raiymbek district of Almaty region, for the full-length feature film "Baluan Sholak", the famous Kyzylzhar Fair was specially recreated. In this scenery, the key scenes of the film are shot. At this fair, the legendary wrestler received the name of Baluan Sholak.

The film is filmed by the “KazakhFilm” studio named after Shaken Aimanov, commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

"If he was just a fighter, then I would shoot a sports action film. If he was only a national composer, I would have made a lyrical film about a creative person. But, since Baluan Sholak is a multi-faceted personality, it will not be easy to show his image in the film. We are working hard to present the film to the viewer," says film director Nurgeldy Sadygulov.

According to Yerzhan Suleimenov, the film's production designer, the scenery was built in two months. Department of Artists recreated the fair on the basis of archival materials and photographs. The costumes of the main characters - Baluan Sholak, Galiya, Balkadisha and Tatiana were sewn according to the sketches of the costume designer Meruert Torybayeva. The property-men carefully selected every thing to be used in the movie.
